Are you looking for meaningful employee engagement opportunities? Together Project’s Welcome Group Program offers businesses and organizations a terrific opportunity to engage their employees to make a real difference in their communities.
The Welcome Group Program, which matches groups of volunteers with refugee newcomer households for up to six months of social support, is a great way for colleagues to collaborate in a shared experience that can make a meaningful impact in the lives of families seeking to build a new life in Canada. Volunteers work together to find creative solutions to address unique challenges faced by the household they are matched with, which can include learning English, accessing services, finding employment, and empowering youth.
This is a sustained volunteer experience, rather than a one-off event, which means that volunteers have the opportunity to collaborate and get to know one another, as well as the newcomers in their match, over a longer period of time. Each Welcome Group features a Lead who coordinates efforts across the group and acts as the main point of contact for Together Project staff – a great opportunity for employees seeking leadership and project management experience.
Together Project has several years’ worth of experience in tailoring the Welcome Group Program to employee engagement teams, both in the context of corporate supporters like TD Bank Group (TD), to smaller businesses seeking a way to give back to their communities. Together Project staff can provide on-site or virtual recruitment, orientation, and training sessions for corporate sponsors, and can work closely with employee engagement/social impact teams to tailor the volunteer experience in a way that best suits their workforce. As Jas Bassi, a 2022 TD Welcome Group volunteer explains,
“Working at TD can be really rewarding, and I love that TD supports so many initiatives that colleagues can get involved with and give back to the communities where we work. […] We do important work during our day job, but being able to participate in programs like this adds another layer and definitely makes it even more rewarding.”
